Open Labs Visit to Arnhem Hack 42 Hackerspace
The people that hosted us gave a really warm welcome. They gave us a tour of the place which was one of the most interesting places I've visited until now They had a museum of old computers since the 80's from Holborne to Next computers, also machinery of different sorts from 3D printers to CNC machines or laser cutter. Another very interesting thing was a retro game room with a Pin Ball arcade game to a Supermario nintendo game. The members of the hackerspace were very passionate about their principles and over all a great community. After we all got to know each other it was time to give talks about our projects which in my case it was Wikimedia. There were around twenty people attending my presentation and i had the chance to talk about my experience in Wikimedia also about future collaborations between the two hackerspaces in different projects.
- Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?
- Add a link here to a blog post or newsletter you wrote about your participation afterwards, or to a meet-up you organized to share your experience with your local community.
During my presentation i talked mainly about my experience at working with Wikimedia to improve/create the quality of articles given to sq Wikipedia. Also another topic that I'm passionate about is Wikimedia Commons where i have made various contributions on uploading pictures of Albania regionaly. We also talked about further collaboration between the two Hackerspaces. Our talk extended to more concrete things/discussions which the people we met with were positive in coming to terms of doing interesting projects together. One interesting thing that was presented by Nafie, Sidorela and me since together we are contributors and event organisers in Wikimedia was to do an Editathon which is going to take place in February where its going to take place both in Tirana and Arnhem where both our hackerspaces will be working simultaneously. We will be creating data in Albanian for Netherland and they will be doing the same thing for Albania in Dutch Wikipedia. The timing didn't allow us to create lots of articles during the presentations because there was a very limited time but our discussions led to this conclusion.
This are my calculations of the trip to Netherlands from the approved expenses:
- Food - 60EUR
- Transport - 30EUR
I will be sending the receipts by email.
Amount left over
Being that i had to cover my own logistical expenses i had to spend all of my grant expenses and maybe more which leads to no other expenses left to specify.
I have various photos of my presentation that Nafie posted on Twitter:
