Welcome back from Wikimania 2017!
- Option 2: Learning Pattern: What is one useful learning pattern you can share with the Wikimedia movement?
- I presented two talks at the conference:
- GLAM: Sustainable Partnership
I shared experiences regarding the GLAM project that Wikimedia Bangladesh undertook in collaboration with Bangladesh National Museum. The project helped the chapter to create a way towards sustainable partnership with the museum. Here is the link of the presentation.
- Affiliate collaboration
I presented on the nature and outcome of the collaboration between Bangladeshi and Indian (West Bengal) Wikimedia communities around the Bengali Wikipedia. The collaboration started in early 2015 and has resulted in a number of online initiatives like article contest and editathons. Here is the presentation.
I also prepared another presentation for my lightning talk but couldn't present it eventually due to time mismatch.
I got to interact with a number of people those came out very interesting to me. Some of them are- Victor (from Ukraine), Jorge Vargas (from Columbia), Liang (from Taiwan), Butch (from Philippine), Deryck (from Hong Kong), Minh Nguyễn (from USA).
I made a Storify story with the tweets I made during the Wikimania 2017.
Also, as a member of the Affiliations Committee, I participated in the AffCom meeting that was held during conference. And as an AffCom member, I, along with my colleagues, had discussions with number of Wikimedians from affiliates in order to clarify or suggest affiliation related issues.
The Wikimania 2017 was a great experience for me! The conference environment was indeed very active, encouraging and engaging. Meeting new and old Wikimedia friends was amazing. I would like to thank the people who organized this Wikimania, but I did feel really sorry for the scholarship recipient Wikimedians who couldn't attend the conference due to refusal of their visa application.
