Proposed participation

[edit]

Walaa Abdel Manaem, Assistant Lecturer at Cairo University, Sysop and editor on Arabic Wikipedia, and program leader ‎of Wikipedia Education Program (WEP) in Cairo University, Egypt since Spring 2013. I'm an active member of Egypt Wikimedians user group, Wikipedia Education Collaborative. The majority of my students are girls. Organizer of Wikiwomen prize in the Arab World. I was the first active female administrator on Ar.wiki since its beginning. Seeking to cooperate with many organizations that are interested in women's issues. I wanna make a presentation about the Wikiwomen prize and project for the Arabic Wikipedia to encourage many persons to participate to increase the female content on Arabic Wikipedia and to decrease the gender gab. Planning to present an overview and full statistics of WEP in Egypt from 2012- 2016 to explain how to make this program as a part of the university education in the World to bring more participants.

Goal and expected impact

[edit]
  • I asked to apply for presentation about the Wikiwomen prize and project for the Arabic Wikipedia to encourage many persons to participate to increase the female content on Wikipedia and to decrease the gender gab. We are interested about the female content for all ever the world. In each round, we have more female participants and more female and featured content. I hope we can make the challenge and encourage the African Institutions and Universities in different countries to be introduced in WEP and start their programs to be a part of eduction process in the World, and increase the Arabic and African content on Wikipedia and decrease the gender gap. Also, I'm planning to present an overview and full statistics of Wikipedia Education Program in Egypt, supported by females from 2012- 2016 to showcase WEP in Egypt to inspire new programs in the area. I can give more than workshop to teach the people how to edit Wikipedia and I have created my own brochure of editing Wikipedia for students in WEP and everybody who would like to edit Wikipedia without ‎problems.
As a result of our activity, many initiatives will be created to cooperate with Wiki Loves Women, and we can organize Wikiwomen Meetup to share the experience with other institutions.I will also actively participate by attending the conference and connecting with specific people, sharing learnings and insights.
