Budget breakdown
[edit]One-day attendance fee at the conference. Fee schedule here: http://www.ma2013.org.au/registration/?IntCatId=38
I now live in Canberra and work for the National Library, so no accommodation/travel would be required. However, as this presentation is about Wikimedia specifically my employer is unable to cover the cost of attendance.
Proposed Participation
[edit]I will be delivering a 90 minute presentation at the "Regional and Remote Museums" pre-conference day of workshops - all about Wikipedia and how smaller GLAMs can get involved. I was not aware that I was on the schedule and had not intended to speak/attend, but was informed that I was on the schedule last week. Nevertheless, it's an excellent opportunity. I will be followed by another speaker who will introduce Creative Commons for a similar length of time.
Goal and Expected Impact
[edit]Greater awareness of the specific role Wikimedia and free-culture can play in "promoting" the smaller cultural institutions, their topic areas and their geographical regions. The leveraging potential of a global community etc. This presentation also further embeds Wikimedia into the "standard practice" of what a cultural organisation should be doing.
Specific requests/proposals can be discussed with the attees and "triaged" on site. Viable projects can be brought to the attention of Wikimedia Australia and/or relevant Wikimedians in their town or globally depending on the nature of the proposed project.
