Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The goal of this project is to significantly advance "Wiki Loves Monuments 2023", in the Nigeria Wikimedia User Group. This project is geared towards the promotion and preservation of historical and monumental sites within Plateau and its neighbouring areas. Our aim is to visit several monumental sites and villages, and capture photographs that highlight their importance, which will be further uploaded on Wikimedia Commons. Additionally, these photos will be used to create and improve articles relating to monumental places in Nigeria, on the Yoruba Wikipedia.

  1. recruit new editors/photographers
  2. add photos to wiki commons
  3. train editors/photographers on how to upload to wiki commons
  4. encourage editors to create articles on Wikipedia, using the photos from wiki commons

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

It's one photo walk event for documentation, and uploading of pictures which will be further used to create articles on Wikipedia, in a series of editathons. As the project will also focus on training the scores of photographers on how to use the pictures on Yoruba Wikipedia aswell

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The Wikimedia Nigeria have been contacted, regarding this project. A WhatsApp group will also be created for participants.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Information will be passed across, using the existing WhatsApp group.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes, they have the required equipment and skills to contribute.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Participants will be engaged via the WhatsApp group that will be created so they can receive subsequent information, regarding Wikimedia Initiative.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Primarily, we aim at the promotion and expansion of free knowledge by training and engaging photographers to contribute to Wikimedia Commons. And encourage editors to create and improve articles, using the photos.

Professional photographers are on ground, who are eager to put their professionalism to this project.

  • Bus for easy movement: 150,000
