Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The Federal College of Wildlife Management New Bussa, situated in Northern Nigeria, is a renowned tertiary institution known for its extensive student body and committed educators. The objective of this proposal is to promote widespread acceptance of Wikipedia and its associated projects within the college been it the first of its kind in the zone, encouraging active involvement from both students and teachers in contributing to these platforms. Additionally, the aim is to establish sustainable communities dedicated to advancing Wikimedia initiatives. Addressing the prevailing skepticism towards Wikipedia and its related projects among faculty and students is essential. A significant number of individuals currently view Wikipedia as an unreliable reference source. To counter this perception, a team of seasoned Wikimedia editors, along with myself, plans to initiate a comprehensive campaign both online and offline within the institution. This campaign will focus on showcasing the credibility and reliability of Wikimedia projects, dispelling misunderstandings, and enhancing their perceived authenticity. The aspiration is also to motivate and engage students and lecturers to take part in Wikimedia projects actively. Many individuals perceive these initiatives as entirely automated, assuming that the content is unalterable. To rectify this misconception, we will emphasize the research potential of Wikimedia projects. By illustrating how these platforms can enhance academic pursuits, we anticipate generating genuine enthusiasm and interest. Consequently, training sessions will be provided to enhance and refine Wikimedia contributions effectively. Establishing sustainable Wikimedia communities within the institution is crucial for the long-term success of this initiative. Following the provision of necessary skills to staff and students, the facilitation of a dedicated collaborative and supportive platform will be prioritized. This platform will serve as a space to address challenges, share experiences, and collectively devise solutions related to Wikimedia contributions. Through nurturing a sense of community and offering continuous support, the project's growth and engagement within the institution can be sustained.

To effectively track project metrics, we will implement a comprehensive approach that includes the creation of a dedicated dashboard. This dashboard will serve as a centralized platform to monitor and analyze participants' contributions throughout the project. By utilizing the dashboard, we can keep a close eye on various metrics such as the number of articles edited, the number of new articles created, and the quality of images uploaded. The dashboard will provide real-time updates and visualizations, enabling us to easily track the progress of individual participants as well as the collective impact of the project. It will help us identify areas that require additional support or intervention, allowing us to address any challenges or bottlenecks promptly. The dashboard will allow us to generate comprehensive reports on project metrics. These reports will provide insights into the overall performance and achievements of the project, making it easier to evaluate its success and identify areas for improvement. By regularly reviewing the metrics and analyzing the data, we can make informed decisions, refine our strategies, and ensure the project's effectiveness.
