Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, the Female Yoruba Wikipedia Editor's Yoruba folklores and tales' edit-a-thon/meetup was a success

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Recruit new editors A total of 12 new editors recruited within the period Before the physical meetup on the 26th November, 2022, recruiting had been ongoing and online training had been going on. (see participants [1. https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikipedia_Yoruba/Female_Yoruba_Wikipedia_Editors/home 2. https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Female_Yoruba_Wikipedia_Editors/Yoruba_Folklores_and_Tales_(2022)])
Add or improve content 21 articles created, several others edited, over 300 total edits, reference added, several commons upload (see dashboard for full details) because more than 90 percent of the editors are new to Wikipedia, the organisers and our facilitators are still mopping up most of the articles. But all in all, it was a successful program.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The turnout was as expected

  • What did not work so well?

The fund was late in coming, so the timing was disrupted and the number of expected participants was reduced. Also, the gadgets available to the participants mostly was their mobile phones, however, we had two computer laptops on ground that helped some of them achieve more.

  • What would you do differently next time?

Because most of our expected participants are teachers, we will try to make sure that the timing of our programs do not fall within the examination period.

Anything else[edit]

Anything else you want to share about your project?

The project needs to be followed up. The fun of folklores is in the physical interaction that it engenders. Some schools are being contacted for the availability of their spaces for video creation of these folklores. Availability of funds is essential in achieving this.
