From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

The digital transformation is well underway, and schools are adopting technology to assist and enhance the learning process in the classroom. Particularly in Lagos state where teachers are now charged to engage in tech-skill acquisition and development.

Hence, our proposal aims to enhance the visibility of Wikimedia projects within the secondary school community, targeting both teachers and students. Throughout these engagements, we intend to familiarize them with the advantages of utilizing Wikipedia and its associated projects, including Wikipedia and Wikidata, among others. Our objective is to provide comprehensive training, empowering them to harness the full potential of Wikimedia projects as indispensable resources for teaching, learning, and research. Our ultimate goal is to emphasize that embracing the Wikimedia platforms grants unparalleled access to a diverse array of information.

However, our strategy involves utilizing this platform as an opportunity to educate both the teachers and students on how to effectively utilize Wikipedia in the classroom and also during there research works. Most importantly, we aim to encourage them to actively contribute to Wikimedia's Vision 2030 of Wikimedia becoming the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge. Participants will receive training on translating articles from Wikipedia to Simple English Wikipedia, a platform designed to facilitate high school students comprehension with minimal effort and create wikidata items.
