Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  •  Description translation project is Wikimedia Commons project that's aimed at translating description and caption of images on Wikimedia Commons in the categories of Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Folklore and Wiki Loves Earth from English to our indigenous languages (Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa) to make our indeginous languages relevant on the Wikimedia space, and prevent them from going into extinction.

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

3 edit-a-thons and trainings. 1 for each of the 3 indeginous languages

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Through the community WhatsApp Group for the indeginous languages and through the project meta page that will be created.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants will join in with their mobile phones and personal computers. And training will be provided for them to know how to do the edit-a-thon.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

By adding them to a user group or affiliate community so that they can be actively engaged in upcoming projects and also encourage them to do more projects.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project is one of its kind on the Wikimedia Commons space. More language description and caption will be added to atleast 1000 images from the categories of Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Folklore and Wiki Loves Earth.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events - 3
  2. Number of participants - 30
  3. Number of new editors - 10
  4. Number of of articles created or improved - 1000 photos (minimum)
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) - 20

User: Ogalihillary,User: Accuratecy051, User:Albertoblaq will facilitate the trainings in the indeginous languages and will keep track of the edit-a-thon. We don't have support from anywhere.
