Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Documenting Badagry At 180years

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • Badagry is a thriving tourism site that attracts people from all over the world. Part of the reason is that it is surrounded by lakes, creeks, and islands, making beaches and resorts one of the major attractions of the ancient town. Its proximity to the ocean made it very easy for Christian mission workers to practice their work, through which Christianity came into Nigeria. Christianity was first preached in Badagry thus making the first Christmas in Nigeria to be celebrated on December 25, 1842, under the Agia tree in Badagry. However, this project will focus on documenting the celebration of 180 years of Christmas celebration in Nigeria, taking photos of notable sites of attractions that hosted seminaries/Schools, churches, and rail tracks e.g The first Christian cemetery, the first Christian prayer ground, The first Primary school, etc.

However, This grant will facilitate the recruitment and training of new and existing editors and introduce them to how to contribute pictures and Audio-visuals to Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
