From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • The aim of this project is to empower the Fulfulde editors with knowledge and skills by raising awareness about Wikidata and organizing an Edith-a-thon to encourage contributions in the Fulfulde language.

The Fulfulde language, spoken by millions of people across West and Central Africa, is currently underrepresented in the digital sphere. This project seeks to address this gap by engagingueditors ng community in contributing to Wikidata, a free and open knowledge graph that can be edited by anyone. Wikidata serves as a central repository for structured data used by Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and other platforms.

  • The project will consist of two main components:
    1. Fulfulde Wikidata Awareness: We will conduct workshop to raise awareness about Wikidata among the Fulfulde editors. This session will introduce participants to the concept of structured data and how it can be used to enrich knowledge resources in the Fulfulde language.
    2. Fulfulde Edith-a-thon: Following the awareness session, we will organize an Edith-a-thon, a community event focused on creating and improving Wikidata entries in Fulfulde. Participants will receive hands-on training on how to edit and contribute to Wikidata, with an emphasis on topics relevant to the Fulfulde language. We will provide mentorship and guidance throughout the event to ensure participants feel supported and encouraged in their contributions.
