  • The project proposal revolves around a Wikipedia Awareness and Training initiative at the University of Maiduguri, spanning three days. The primary objectives include fostering awareness about Wikipedia through discussions with staff and students. The subsequent days focus on practical training, guiding participants in creating Wikimedia accounts, utilizing Wikipedia for research, and actively contributing by enhancing articles. Special attention is given to topics relevant to the university and local community in both English and Hausa. This project aims to empower individuals with the skills to navigate and contribute effectively to the Wikipedia platform while fostering a sense of community engagement and knowledge dissemination.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

During a three-day event, the initial day involves raising awareness and discussing Wikipedia with staff and students. The following two days will focus on helping participants create Wikimedia accounts and utilize Wikipedia for research on the first day. Then, on the next day, we'll work on improving Wikipedia by enhancing articles, particularly those related to the university and the local community in both English and Hausa. Come join us for two days of learning and contributing to Wikipedia!

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I will let them know via WhatsApp and Telegram groups, I will also share via Hausa Wikipedia Discussion page.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

The participants mostly know via face to face discussion and WhatsApp groups of departments

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

I will engage the participants by creating a WhatsApp group.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Im the alumni of UNIMAID where I did my PGD, I have a good contact with lecturers and some current students more especially the school of post graduate diploma, the foculty of engineering. Currently I'm working with Radio Nigeria sunshine FM Potiskum Yobe State as an ICT officer. The transportation expenses will cover my trips from Potiskum to Maiduguri and cover the trip of Gwanki from Kano to Maiduguri. Before applying, I have discussed with him about the project and he assured me that he accepted.

I Mr. Snatch I will lead the event, with Gwanki will facilitate.

  • Food and beverage - 1500×20×2days=60,000
  • Transportation From to Potiskum/Maiduguri for two organisers - 20,000
  • Banner and Flyers- 20,000

  • T shirts for 2 organisers - 10000
  • Accomodation for organisers for two days - 40,000
  • Contingency - 10,000
