  • The Wikimedia Awareness at Maiduguri Metropolis project aims to promote the understanding and utilization of Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, among the residents of Maiduguri, Nigeria. This initiative seeks to bridge the knowledge gap by fostering a culture of open knowledge sharing and improving the accessibility of free information.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are organizing a three-day awareness trip where we will distribute flyers and engage in discussions with the community. During this trip, we will visit significant locations such as schools, zoo, markets, motor Parks, lakechade, and museum in Maiduguri. Additionally, we will capture photographs of important sites and upload them to Wikimedia Commons to enhance Wikipedia articles related to Maiduguri with visual content. This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage participation in Wikimedia projects.

We will also organise one day physical training to the active and new Wikimedians of Maiduguri.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I'm managing Whatsapp Group of Maiduguri Wikimedians, I will post there and also I will post in Hausa Community general Whatsapp Group and other social media platforms of Wikimedians I belong. I will also share in Hausa Wikipedia discussion page.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

All the participants will know via Maiduguri Wikimedians Whatsapp Group and other will know via phone calls.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

Yes they have smartphones and computers

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the project I will add new registered users to our WhatsApp group were I will continue engaging them.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The project is a three days awareness trips which I and Murja Khalid we will lead with other three existence Wikimedians User:Abba Muhammad, User:Hajara ya'u, User:Hausa hassan

I User:Mr. Snatch, I will lead the project with the help of User:Murja Khalid an experience Wikimedian From Damaturu as a facilitator.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

  1. Trips - 5000 for five participants during awareness trips = 25,000 × 5=75,000
  2. Hall for physical training - 40,000
  3. Food and refreshments for participants - 2000×20 participants = 40,000
  4. Banner and flyers - 40,000
  5. T shirts for two organizers and three participants during awareness trips for identification - 5000×5=25,000
  6. Camera renting for photos capturing - 20'000
  7. Projector - 10,000
  8. Contingency - 10,000

Total - 260,000
