From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • This project intends to document the Osun Osogbo festival, a significant cultural event in Nigeria. It is an annual festival celebrated at the Osun grove in Osogbo, Osun State. The Osun Osogbo grove is one of the last remnants of primary high forest in southern Nigeria. The festival is a centuries-old celebration of the river goddess, Osun, and involves various rituals, performances, and processions. However, due to the passage of time and various socio-cultural changes, there is a risk of losing valuable aspects of this cultural heritage. The documentation project aims to capture the essence of the festival, preserve it for future generations, and raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage preservation. This project intend to document all activities of the festival from the 'Iwopopo' (traditional cleansing) followed by 'Ina Olojumerindinlogun' (lighting of the 500-year-old sixteen-point lamp), the 'Iboriade' and the .

The documentary will use a combination of photographs, audiovisual footage, and interviews, to capture different dimensions of the festival. It will explore the history, beliefs, rituals, artistic expressions, and significance of the Osun Osogbo Festival within the broader cultural context.
