  • The Wikipedia awareness project in Bauchi City aimed to promote knowledge-sharing and digital literacy by engaging the local community in contributing to and accessing Wikipedia. Through workshops, outreach events, and collaborative initiatives, the project sought to raise awareness about the importance of reliable information and empower residents to participate in creating and improving Wikipedia content. The initiative aimed to bridge the digital divide and foster a culture of information dissemination in Bauchi City.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Two days of awareness trips and two days of physical training and one day of online follow up

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I will let them know via WhatsApp group of Hausa Community and also via Telegram Groups of Hausa Community

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

The participants will be invited to the physical awareness during awareness trips. They will also be invited by one of our Facilitator the resident of Bauchi.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

I will create a WhatsApp group where I will continue engaging the participants

This project will be the first of it's kind in Bauchi State

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets (only those applicable to your project):

  3. Number of people reaching - 500+ during awareness trips we will share flyers containing most important notes about Wikipedia and Wikimedia foundations
  4. Number of new editors - 15
  5. Number of of articles created - 50
  6. Number of of articles improved - 50
  7. Number of of images uploaded - 40
  8. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) -

I Smshika, I will lead the event with the help of M Bash Ne as a facilitator. Together we will organise all the events

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

  • Trips - 20,000 (awareness trip)
  • Hall for two days physical training - 30,000×2days = 60,000
  • Refreshments for two days = 40,000
  • Transport and accommodation - 40,000 (Transportations and accommodation for two organisers.)
  • Banner = 10,000
  • Flyers = 15,000
  • T-shirts for two organisers = 10,000
  • Contingency = 10,000

Total=205,000
