Wiki Loves Living Heritage is a participatory, community-driven initiative calling on heritage practitioners, Wikimedia volunteers and cultural institutions around the world to document and celebrate living heritage. It seeks to combine awareness-raising and documenting activities – online and on the ground – to enhance the safeguarding of living heritage worldwide.

The campaign is arranged in the context of the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Wiki Loves Living Heritage photos feast is a project targeted towards promoting and documenting the Nigerian heritage on the wikimedia commons, we hope to bring this campaign gap in Nigeria and added more quality photos from the heritage in the city of ibadan

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Wiki loves living heritage is a photo contribution to the culture,history and traditional heritage and in view to achieving this we will be organizing a photo walk,one training session and an Edit a thon contest

Photo walk session:we will be taking a photo walk at the national museum of Unity, Ibadan. This is to enable the participants to get close to the heritage of Ibadan through the various cultural, historical and traditional sculptures,arts and crafts in the museum take a picture and upload them on wikimedia commons to preserve their heritage in the future.

Training session: this training session is to train editors on how to add photos and videos to wikimedia commons and how to add them to other wikimedia sister projects especially Wikipedia. This training will be focused at the new participants in Ibadan who are interested in preserving the heritage and also who are willing to contribute to free knowledge in line with the global community goal.

Edit-a-thon contest:There will be an edit a thon contest after the training session for participants to contribute and add photos, this is aim at having more entries of photos and videos on wikimedia commons and also to engage our participants on what they have learnt.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We will be creating awareness through the use of E flyers and our social media platforms to inform interested individuals in ilorin who want to contribute to free knowledge.

We will also share out registration form for them to register also adding our group link.where participants will be informed about the activities and training.. the group will serve as a means of continuous communication with them.

We will also use our mail to communicate with them officially

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

What is the buns will be coming with their cameras to take pictures and also internet connectable devices like smartphones with good cameras,Laptops and tablets.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Since our target are new participants who are not members of the community. We will be engaging them through the following 1.continuous engagement of the official WhatsApp group:we will continue to engage our WhatsApp group by sharing weekly information about the activities of the Nigerian community example the monthly Office hour. 2.Exposing them to other Wikimedia Communities and projects: we will encourage them to participate and join the community of Nigerian wikimedians and also join other project campaigns to increase their awareness and participation in the wikimedia movement.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project is targeting the following as it campaign goal

  1. Bridge campaigns gap.
  2. photo added to wikimedia commons.

And we hope to see the best of our training in our participants.

User:Chic portfolios: I will be leading the project, with knowledge about wikimedia commons,I have participated in training session,was part of the winner in a wiki contest on photo upload.


User:kingaustin07:He is an experienced editor from kwara, he will be training the participants on how the add quality photos and he will also be the jury for the contest.


User:jessephu:He is an experienced editor and also a trainer, he will be in charge of communications and logistics of participants during this project. He will also help in training participants.

Hall rental for training: NGN 40,000

Refreshment and Take away pack during physical training (2000*20) : NGN 40,000

Refreshment during the photo walk(1000*20):NGN 20,000

T shirt for team members: (5000*3): NGN1 15,000

Airtime for Communication + Transportation +data for the two team members members: NGN 30,000

Transportation for participants(Bus rental) :NGN 50,000

Camera rental and photography : NGN 10,000

Appreciating prizes for any three highest editor for the training(gift items) : NGN 30,000

Contigencies , Miscellaneous and Logistics: NGN 15,000

Total = NGN 250,000
