  • The title for our wikidata birthday celebration is ‘’’Exposing the connectivity of wikidata items through query’’’

Wikidata is one of the wikimedia sister projects that started in 2012 and has been celebrated by wikimedians round the world annually, the sister project as a collection for data is an easy to use and edit wikimedia project, but most of the time editors do not understand how to adequately link each of these items together and providing connections between items.

Wikidata data query help in this process, we aim to bridge the gaps of connectivity among wikidata items relating to Nigeria, engage editors and most of all celebrate wikidata birthday with an edit a thon contest to engage all participants on what they have learnt from the events.

Activities[edit]

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

it is going to be a two day event and an edit a thon contest

Day one :(training and introduction to wikidata query): it’s focuses on introducing wikidata query to participants and to adequately use the tool to contribute to wikidata. The session will be conducted by a wikidata expert and there will also be an editing session during the event.

Day two:(wikidata birthday celebration): The participants will get to network and experience editors will share their experiences on contributing to wikidata and how they have helped bridge content gaps on wikidata to encourage the new editors. It is also a moment for all contributors to network and exchange pleasantries. There will be moments of editing during the day. We ask questions from participants and they also ask their questions around wikidata and wikimedia for those who are new to the movement.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.

We will be using WhatsApp and Telegram to communicate with our participants as that is the preferred social media platform to share information and communicate. 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We will be posting out our E flyers for the project to social media platforms, twitter, Facebook,WhatsApp to inform participants know about the event We also share a google form for interested participants to register We will then engage the WhatsApp and email more to keep our participants informed and engaged before the event begins. 4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

User:jessephu: (project lead) I will be organizing the event and I am expected Wikidata contributor. User:favourdare123:(facilitator) he is an experienced wikidata contributor with over 10 thousand contributions on wikidata and he has also facilitated and trained lots of New editors on wikidata. 5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants will be bringing their internet connectable devices like smartphones, laptops, tablets to the event to be able to effectively connect and participate in the training and the edit-a-thon contest. 6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

  1. Constantly reaching out to all our created platforms
  2. Following them up and ensure the contribute to wikimedia free knowledge
  3. Introduce them to several different wikimedia projects like Wikipedia,wikivoyage,wikimedia commons etc
  4. Encourage them to join the Nigerian community as full member

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 2 (2 physical events)
  2. Number of participants 25
  3. Number of new editors 15
  4. Number of of articles created or improved 200 wikidata item using query
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) 10

  • Our target metrics is 200 wikidata items created and improved using wikidata query.

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

User:jessephu(project lead) I am the head of the project team and will be the trainer for the event and also In charge of communication with the participants. I am experienced editor on wikidata, with relevant contributions.

User:favourdare123(facilitator) He will be in charge of training participants on wikidata query, he will be the jury for the edit-a-thon contest and also the session at the wikidata birthday celebration. He is an experienced Wikimedian with over ten thousand edits on wikidata.
