  • Wikidata as a sister project under the Wikimedia Foundation, has over 100 millions added items and still counting but few Wikimedians has the knowledge of some of its tools, e.g Structured data tool, Quickstatement tool, Mix n Match tool, Wikidata Querry, among Others. This Project is to bring a quality Training of some of these tools to the awareness of fellow Wikimedians, How to use it to improve items on Wikidata would be taught admist selected Existing Wikimedians in Ekiti.

Project Goal[edit]

  1. recruit new editors
  2. Improving and creating items on Wikidata.
  3. Educating already existing Wikimedians on how to make use of Three (3) wikidata tools among others, Namely;

i. Recoin tool

ii. Structured Data tool

iii. Mix n Match tool

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are doing both Editathon and a training; One day training and two weeks Editathon.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We will send out a google form for Wikimedians to fill which just fifteen (15) participants would be selected, and this selected participants would be added to a Whatapp group where information about the meet up would be sent.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The target participants are already Existing Wikimedians of Ekiti, they have basic knowledge about Wikidata and some among them has laptop for the training, while the others has a smartphone in other to have a conducive training environment.

We are going to support the participants with mobile data scholarship for both the training and the editathon in other to have an Effective Result during and after the training.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Through the already existing whatapp group, that would aid an Avenue of providing requisite answers to any confrontations from the participants admist the use of the tools during Editathon.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The project is aimed at training editors on how to make use of some wikidata tools with this training Schedule Below;
  • Registration of participants (Attendance, Creation of account and onboarding participants on the Dashboard): 10:00AM - 10:15AM
  • Introduction (Wikidata and The goal for the project): 10:15AM - 10:30AM
  • Recoin Tool training session: 10:30AM - 11:00AM
  • Tea Break: 11:00AM-11:15AM
  • Structured Data tool training session: 11:15AM-11:45AM
  • Mix N Match tool training session: 11:45AM-12:15PM
  • Exercise Session( making use of the tool to improve an item on wikidata):12:15PM-12:45PM
  • Closing session (Question and Answer including sharing of Refreshments):12:45PM-1:00PM

User: Favourdare123(Project Lead): I am an experienced Wikimedian editor and i have engaged in various edit-a-thons on wikipedia, wikidata respectively, Having Knowledge of some wikidata tools necessitated my over 10,000 edits on wikidata I would be leading the peoject.
User:OTim75(Communication and Logistics): He is an experienced editor on wikidata and have won various prizes accross many nigeria campaigns, he would be assisting me in this project with his excellent skill in communication and Logistics.

  • Venue For a day Event = 30,000
  • Refreshments [During and after training (2000*17) ]= 34,000
  • Data scholarship for participants (5000 * 15) = 75,000
  • Airtime for communication + Transportation + Data For two Team members = 30,000
  • Camera Rental & Photography = 8,000
  • E-Flyer = 5,000
  • Prizes for Three (3) Top editors = 33,000
  • Contingencies = 15,000
