Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

The Gombe Wikimedia Network, are committed to promoting open knowledge and digital literacy in Nigeria. In line with this mission, we are excited to propose a Wikidata event aimed at strengthening our local Wikimedia community's knowledge and skills, as part of the Nigeria Wikimedia User Group, to commemorate Wikidata's birthday. This event is designed to celebrate the significance of Wikidata and promote its importance to the community members. The primary goals of the event are to provide comprehensive training in Wikidata editing, as well as to encourage the use of Wikidata as a valuable resource for knowledge sharing and data enrichment. The project also aims to engage and empower participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to Wikidata effectively. Participants will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in editing Wikidata items, and bridge the data gap by creating wikidata items related to Gombe state that does mot exist on wikidata.

This Wikidata event has the potential to create a profound impact on our local community which include: Empowering individuals with digital literacy and data editing skills, enriching Wikidata with valuable information about Gombe and Nigeria at large, fostering collaboration between the Wikimedia community and local stakeholders, Promoting the use of open data to support education, research, and cultural initiatives in Nigeria.

Following the training, we will host a Wikidata edit-a-thon, encouraging participants to create and enhance Wikidata items related to Gombe State
