Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Background Statement:

This Awareness Campaign in Taraba State aims to address the crucial need for increased awareness and participation in Wikimedia projects within the region. Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia serve as invaluable repositories of knowledge, fostering a collaborative environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can contribute to the creation and dissemination of information. However, despite the global impact of Wikimedia projects, there exists a significant gap in awareness and participation within Taraba State.

Taraba State, situated in the northeastern region of Nigeria, boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage that deserves to be documented and shared on a global scale. Recognizing the untapped potential for local communities to contribute their unique perspectives, the Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign aims to bridge this awareness gap and empower individuals in Taraba State to actively engage with Wikimedia platforms.

The campaign seeks to introduce Wikimedia projects to the residents of Taraba State, emphasizing the importance of preserving and sharing their cultural, historical, and regional knowledge. Through a series of workshops, outreach programs, and community engagement initiatives, the campaign aims to demystify the process of contributing to Wikimedia projects, ensuring that even those with limited technical expertise can participate. Moreover, the campaign will highlight the global significance of Taraba State's cultural and historical narratives, encouraging a sense of shared responsibility for the representation of diverse perspectives on these platforms.

The ultimate goal of the Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign in Taraba State is to create a sustainable and vibrant community of contributors from Taraba State who actively contribute to Wikimedia projects. By amplifying local voices and perspectives, this campaign not only enriches the global Wikimedia community but also ensures that the wealth of knowledge and stories from Taraba State are preserved and shared with a worldwide audience. Through this initiative, Taraba State will become an integral part of the global tapestry of knowledge, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous learning.

Strong support Strong support:I am pleased to endorse the Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign in Taraba State, Nigeria. This initiative not only addresses the critical need for increased awareness and participation in Wikimedia projects but also empowers local communities to contribute their rich cultural and historical perspectives to the global stage. By fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous learning, this campaign is poised to create a sustainable and vibrant community of contributors, ensuring that Taraba State's unique narratives are preserved and shared with a global audience.Umar2z (talk)

Strong support Strong support This is a welcome initiative aimed at promoting wikimedia projects to a new environment with dearth of Wikimedia awareness and activities in North-East Nigeria. During the last Train The Trainers Gombe, there was virtually no representative from the State and I believe this singular initiative by Wikimedia Gombe will go a long way in improving the current state of things in Taraba State. Furthermore, we at Bauchi State look forward to hosting Gombe Network continue this laudable leadership initiative to improve the inclusivity of people in the region in Open Knowledge development.
