Project summary

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

In the vibrant and culturally rich city of Maiduguri, nestled in the heart of Borno State, Nigeria, there exists a profound reservoir of untapped knowledge and cultural heritage. As a community that has weathered its share of challenges, Maiduguri stands resilient, its people embodying the spirit of perseverance and a collective thirst for education and information. Recognizing the immense potential for knowledge dissemination and cultural preservation, an initiative is underway to launch the Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. Wikimedia Projects, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons are global platforms that empower individuals to collaboratively create, share, and curate knowledge across a wide range of subjects. The aim of this awareness campaign is to bridge the digital information gap and promote active participation in Wikimedia Projects within the Maiduguri community. By fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration, we aspire to amplify the diverse narratives, history, and cultural richness of Maiduguri on a global scale. Maiduguri, with its unique blend of tradition and modernity, has a wealth of stories waiting to be told. The Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign seeks to engage local residents, educational institutions, and community organizations in a series of informative workshops, seminars, and outreach programs. These initiatives will not only introduce participants to the Wikimedia Projects but also empower them with the skills and resources needed to contribute to these platforms. In collaboration with local partners, educators, and technology enthusiasts, the Wikimedia Projects Awareness Campaign in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council aims to create a sustainable and inclusive environment for knowledge sharing. By doing so, we envision a digital landscape where Maiduguri's stories are not only preserved but also celebrated, fostering a sense of pride and connection among its residents.
