Briefly summarize your project proposal. This is a WikiFact-Checkers training for media professionals in Nigeria. To create awareness of Wikimedia projects to the media community. We introduce Wikipedia, Wikidata training to media professionals and make them see how important Wikipedia is to the media.

  1. Recruit new editors
  2. Add or improve content on Wikipedia and Wikidata
  3. Building and advocating for the media community to join the Wikipedia community

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are having 2 physical trainings and 4 online trainings.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have announced on the Wikimedia Nigeria user group about the project on their Metapage https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria and on WhatsApp

I will also tag them on X former twitter @Wikifactcheckers on X Twitter 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We have a WhatsApp group where we have 121 media professionals, we will also send out messages on social media

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

Yes, they do.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will engage them through social media channels, SMS, and calls we also have a community WhatsApp group.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

WikiFact-Checkers is a growing community that is putting in the effort to increase media participation in Wikipedia in order to improve the quality of material and address the content gap and deficiency.

This project is a thrust in that direction by equipping the Media Professionals.

The Wikifactcker members, will train the participants, and track the progress of the project.

Strong support Strong support: Capacity building and training of media personnel around Wikimedia projects in the country is synonymous with opening up knowledge. The more involved the better and the quality of information editors work with becomes ubiquitous.
