From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • This photo-walk project is aimed at documenting, preserving and promoting the rich heritage of historical monuments within Kwara State under the Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 Campaign, to expand the image collection carefully curated by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. My team and I would be happy to embark on this project to captivate the natural essence of these monuments, expounding more on their diverse cultural and socio-economic significance to their host communities and in extension- the national and global communities.

Some of the historical monuments we would like to explore during the course of this tour include: 1, Richard Lander and Mungo Park Monument, Jebba. 2, Mustapha Akanbi Library, Ilorin 3, Awiye Memorial Library and Museum, Ijomu-Oro. 4, Emir of Ilorin Palace where the yearly Sallah Durbar takes place 5, Sheik Alimi's Abode in Owu and Kajola villages in Asa local government areas of Kwara State. He is the first emir of Ilorin.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

I will be carrying out a photo-walk, a training for local photographers and a photo upload session.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have notified the Wikimedia Nigeria community talk group about the proposed event.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

I'll create a Whatsapp community group to interact with the participating photographers and editors.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

I'll be leading the group of photographers, to be assisted by @MediaMOF as a photographer and editor.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

All participants are established photographers so they have professional cameras.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Subsequent updates about the Wikipedia events will be communicated to the participants via the Whatsapp group created.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

I believe that this is an integral project that will contribute immensely to free knowledge and also, encourage more photographers to start contributing to Wikimedia commons.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 1
  2. Number of participants 10
  3. Number of new editors 7
  4. Number of of articles created or improved 350
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) 4

Metrics tracking[edit]

How do you plan to track your project metrics? The photo will be uploaded under the category "Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 Nigeria" for tracking. The outreach dashboard will monitor progress and impact, providing valuable insights and metrics. This tracking system optimizes outreach efforts and informs data-driven decisions.
