Thank you for this report[edit]

Thank you for submitting this complete report on time. We did notice that you did not provide an answer to the question, “1. As required in the grant agreement, please report any deviations from your grant proposal here. Note that, among other things, any changes must be consistent with our WMF mission, must be for charitable purposes as defined in the grant agreement, and must otherwise comply with the grant agreement.” Is this because you have no changes to report, or because that information is included elsewhere in the proposal?

We look forward to reviewing the report in more detail in the coming months, and learning more about your accomplishments in the past year. Please monitor this page for questions and feedback about this report, and reach out to us at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 17:54, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for not answering this question in our report! It was not intentional but a silly oversight. We did not make any substantial changes to aims, objectives and activities during the course of 2013. However, we did change the prognosis of revenue generated. This is explained in the extra table we added to table 3 of the report. Please let me know if you would like us to provide more detailed information here. No problem, SRientjes! It is easy to miss a question on the form. That simple clarification is all we need, and we will let you know if you have any more questions. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 16:22, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on WMNL’s impact report from FDC staff[edit]

Thank you for submitting this complete report, colleagues at Wikimedia Nederland; you shared many details and insights that help us understand your work and your approaches! You have continue to do a great job reporting on your progress and your financials in a detailed and clear way. Thank you for providing the detailed table explaining the changes to your planned budget so that we have a better picture of you spent against your revised plan. From reading this report, we can see that Wikimedia Nederland is learning a lot about its work and is willing to share both successes and challenges. We also enjoyed seeing photographs in the report; thanks for including them. Congratulations also on increasing your membership numbers from 165 to 215 in the last year.

We appreciate your observations that once you have a system in place to better track and understand the impact of your work you may need to turn down some opportunities in order to focus on the work with the highest potential for impact. Wikimedia Nederland is investing in building a stronger relationship with its editing communities, and we look forward to the fruits of this in future work. This is an area that several other organizations are working in as well, so please continue to share your thinking and your work around this in future reports and by making learning patterns.

We appreciate that Wikimedia Nederland is open about sharing what it has learned, even about things that did not go well. For example, we thank you for sharing your thinking that one-off, single training events are not effective for achieving high rates of retention among new recruits. We hope to learn more about how you are able to work with your GLAM partners to develop programs with higher retention rates. Your comments about communicating with the community about events involving newcomers would make a great learning pattern as well.

We enjoyed learning from your success as well! Congratulations on achieving some success in attracting more volunteers to your microgrants work. If you figure out some strategies that work, please share them with the community by creating some learning patterns about this. We look forward to learning more about what you are achieving through these grants. We like thatWikimedia Nederland wants to focus to “consolidate existing relationships with major GLAM institutions,” and hope to learn about the quantifiable outcomes of this work as Wikimedia Nederland moves forward in this work (as in, the amount of content contributed or editors engaged and retained through these partnership activities). We are also interested in the results of Wikimedia Nederland’s exploration with a thematic approach to its content-focused programs.

Thank you for sharing your success story about the Wikimedia Hackathon. We are glad to know that this event was such a great success, but we would have been interested to know more about how Wikimedia Nederland understands the impact on this activity on its goals. Sharing case studies that are more strongly connected with Wikimedia Nederland’s key programmatic goals might be more helpful in future reports since case studies are another opportunity for us to better understand how Wikimedia Nederland sees its own successes and failures, or to demonstrate key lessons learned during the funding period.

We hope Wikimedia Nederland is able to apply some of what it is now learning to successful program work in the coming years, and we look forward to the results.
