Thoughts from FDC staff[edit]

Hello colleagues, thank you for your report! We appreciate the detailed and clear financial reporting as well as the explanations for areas in which WMNL had high or low expenses this past quarter. We also greatly appreciate the tables that clearly show your progress from quarter to quarter with respect to your targets for each program. It makes it easy to see what your quarterly progress has been. Perhaps you could consider separating “content” into articles and images in future reports.

Congratulations on meeting your fundraising target for this year! It is great to hear that you were approached by a donor. Congratulations, also, on meeting your goal for number of images uploaded through your World War II themed program, and congratulations also on a successful Wiki Loves Earth campaign. We appreciate your sharing your strategy behind developing your work in the second thematic area of nature, biodiversity and landscape after the Wiki Loves Earth campaign has ended in order to take advantage of partnership opportunities and the chance to add content that is currently a gap. We enjoyed learning about the significant content donation of videos of birds to be integrated into relevant Wikipedia articles. WMNL is observing the creation of high quality images through this focused partnership with the national parks (as opposed to being focused on simply collecting a large number of photos). Moving forward, we hope WMNL finds ways to measure this more precisely in order to articulate the benefits of a focused program like this.

We are excited to learn about your decision about the education program based on the feasibility study, as well as the first results of your public library partnership. These are exciting new work areas for WMNL and we look forward to seeing these plans develop as your board moves forward with a decision.

It was interesting that you had challenges around uploading sounds at your events. Perhaps this would be a useful learning pattern to share with the community. Thanks also for sharing that attendance was higher when your parks-related events were linked with other activities. It may be useful to share more about this too.
