Response by WMNL to staff proposal assessment[edit]

First of all, we would like to thank WMF staff for their thorough and professional assessment of our proposal. We appreciate the time and effort involved and are impressed by the quality of their work. We share the concern of staff about the impact of our activities. As mentioned in the assessment, we are experimenting with approaches to increase impact and expect to see positive results. As always, we are eager to share lessons learned with the wider movement, and to learn from other chapters.

We would like to comment on two remarks made in the assessment:

1. "In the past, WMNL has focused on organizational processes such as administrative and financial systems rather than emphasizing its progress in program work".

We do not think this is a fair representation of our work over the past two years. The WMNL office was established in May 2012; obviously building an office from scratch requires a considerable investment of time. Still, a look at our monthly reports and our 2013 impact report will show how much energy we put into programmatic work from day one.

2. "Given WMNL’s program and organization competencies, we are confident that it has the capacity to do this focused plan; at the same time we are concerned that it is supported by this large budget in a context where WMNL has not been successful at raising other funding."

We are proud to say that we have already met our fund-raise target for 2014. Our Q3 report provides further details.
