Quick summary of report review[edit]

As per our conversation today (5 September 2017), this is a very quick summary of the salient points of the Progress report review. This outlines the essential highlights.

  • Results: WMNL results have improved in comparison to the last impact report.
  • Programs:
    • WMNL is pursuing a number of strong programs yielding very interesting results especially in the thematic priorities:
      • Nature (Program 6)
      • Nederland and the world (Program 7)
    • Some ongoing programs produce less positive results but WMNL's approach to them is thoughtful and iterative, trying to make sure that programs are adapted to circumstances and context, as well as evolve when needed. Particularly:
      • Community health (Progral 1) which is pursuing very interesting research and trainings to improve community health in the nl projects, with the hope of finding working processes to be applied in other contexts.
      • GLAM-partnerships (program 4) with the emphasis on "Heritage" partnerships involving various museums (Program 4)
      • Wiki Loves Monuments (Program 8) with a text-based approach to improving articles about monuments.
  • Financials
    • Revenue is on track with a one-time donation to be used across 3 years.
    • Spending is low in programmatic expenses, high in operative expenses for a mid-year report, but expected financials should balance in the end with more financial intensive activities in Q3 and Q4.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Discussion about staff and volunteer turn-over and how it affects the chapter activities. New staff has been hired and staff is expected to be complete by 1 October 2017.
    • Activity fatigue: interesting to note how too many things happening might lower motivation of people in offline and online events.
    • Discussion about WMNL work as a fiscal sponsor: great work that provides stability to the movement. It might be interesting to find out how this work can be made sustainable and more widely available.
