  1. generally, support the project.--MikyM (talk) 20:30, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  2. IMHO I would see as first important measure the possibility to create an organization team and to strength the Latvia user group around a project. The cost is still valid to compensate this result. --Ilario (talk) 09:05, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Bonus points for copying my earlier WLM proposal ;-) MADe (talk) 17:42, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  4. I'm particularly impressed by the significant contribution coming from a non-Foundation source. Craig Franklin (talk) 13:42, 26 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Dear Voll and Papuass, thank you for your grant submission! It is great we will have Latvia in WLM this year. You wrote one of measures of success is create of a professional volunteering organising team. Can you provide me more information about how you will measures this? Also, what is the plan for achieve the good media impact? How you will measures it, too? Looking forward for your answers and good luck with this project.--MikyM (talk) 20:38, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is out first PEG, meaning some things could be expressed more clearly. Of course, "professionalism" of out team is hard to measure, but intention is to have a good feeling about how the event is organised, possible problems dealt with and post project activities completed on time. As for achieving media impact, we plan to use our partner (who is also partly providing funding) as main publicity option. As you can see in our media mentions page, we got way more publications in 2015 and almost all of them came from projects with this partner. We will also use our social media account on Twitter, although it has limited reach. Should we indicate expected number of media publications? --Papuass (talk) 20:58, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Papuass and Voll. Thank you for submitting this grant request. Please send an email to me at awang"at"wikimedia.org so I can follow-up regarding the grantmaking process. Thanks, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Papuass and Voll. Thanks again for this grant request and engaging with the GAC so far. We're excited to see a grant proposal from the new user group and excitement to participate in Wiki Loves Monuments for the first time! We have a few questions and look forward to your responses.

Measures of success[edit]

  1. "Get 25 new contributors": Does this mean 25 people participate in the contest that have never edited a wiki project or do not have a username? Or does this mean participants in the contest that continue to be active on the projects after the contest is over?
  2. "Achieve good media impact": As MikyM wrote above, it would be helpful for us to know what you think would be a success. Either number of media mentions, or type of media mentions, or quality. What will you consider "good"?
  3. "Get commitment from the partners": Can you please clarify? Does this mean you hope to have commitment from your partners at the award ceremony to support other projects in the next year?
  4. "Have a considerable number of participants at the award ceremony": What would the team consider a good number of people?

Please note you can answer these questions on the discussion page, but also update the measures of success directly on the grant request page.

Other[edit]

  1. It sounds like you've secured a good partner who will cover some of the costs. Can you please let us know who this is?
  2. Is the official monument list available? When will it be posted for participants?
  3. Please be sure to clearly explain the Freedom of Panorama issue on the contest page.
  4. Here are additional resources about organizing WLM and photo events: Photo Program Resources. I would especially encourage you to take a look at these Learning Patterns and share the photography tips on your contest page: Photographing your local buildings, Improving your building photography, and Let the media know.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the above. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 22:26, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response to WMF comments "Other" questions (the rest will follow later):

  1. Our partner is Norvik Banka. Together we are involved in Latvijas Vikipēdijas maratons campaign. It was their initiative to create publicity campaign with article writing contest. The details of it are known to Asaf Bartov and James Buatti from WMF. For WLM we reached to them for support in promoting the contest and possible sponsorship which was agreed upon.
  2. The list was prepared some months ago from publicly available list of monuments. It is arranged by administrative divisions of Latvia. However, the responsible government agency did not respond to our and out partners requests (we wanted to get geo coordinates for objects, right now they have only address).
  3. We are very well aware of FoP issues, will do our best to explain.
  4. Thanks for pointing it out, we will translate and add the most important parts of it.

Thanks for thorough review and suggestions. --Papuass (talk) 07:38, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response to WMF comments "Measures of success" questions:

  1. Get at least 25 newly registered users.
  2. Amount of mentions in press or other web sites is over 5
  3. We hope to have commitment (interest) from our partners to take an active part in the award ceremony.
  4. Have at least 15 participants at the award ceremony.

Thank you for the questions, it really helps. --Voll (talk) 05:38, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Voll. Thank you for the updates, the grant is approved. We're happy to hear our questions were helpful! Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 05:50, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
