WMF review and feedback[edit]

Hi @Michal-WMIL,

Thank you for submitting your proposal. It is exciting to see the scope and quality of the partnerships you have. This is a clear demonstration of the scope of work and impact you have in Israel's knowledge and education fields.

I have reviewed your proposal and have a few questions and comments:

  • You have mentioned that 'Empowerment of Women and unrepresented groups' is key goal and desired learning for you. Can you please explain what are the actions you intend to take to promote this? How will you target those audiences?
  • What do you consider as 'unrepresented groups' in Israel or in the Hebrew Wikipedia community that you would like to encourage their participation?
  • I really liked you idea for the "Museum night" ערב המוזיאונים. I think that other than being creative and innovative, it's a really good way to promote engagement with the wider audience.
  • Can you please explain what is the 'תכנית תרבות' for the President's House event?
  • Can you please explain what is the תוכן ולוגיסטיקה (content and logistics) costs? Is it the event management costs?
  • I liked the idea of conducting the סקר עמדות Attitude Research to educate you future work.
  • I have read and understood your vision for the events mainly from the budget, but I think that the proposal itself lacks some context as to the kind on events you are looking to host and the goals and purpose for each of them. As each one seems to have different target audience and different goals. Please elaborate a bit more so that the Conference committee will have a better understanding of your vision.
  • As I do acknowledge the importance and potential impact such outreach events can have, based only on the focus group - it is hard to determine whether there is a community need or clear interest for such event. An outreach event can be initiated by the chapter's leadership, but it will still be good to understand if there is a clear community support as this will not only require many resources allocation, but also volunteers active engagement.

Thank you again for this proposal and initiative. I look forward to hearing from you. CAlmog (WMF) (talk) 05:11, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello and thank you for the feedback. The following are our clarifications to the various questions you have asked:
1. Underrepresented groups on the Hebrew Wikipedia and in Israel are women, people with disabilities, people from the geographical or social periphery, and minorities. During the 20th anniversary events, we will make an effort to reduce gaps by tackling issues related to these groups. For example, during the “Night of Museums” we will shed light on female artists and their works. At the academic conference we can address the issue of technology and education, which offers an opportunity to reduce gaps between different groups. In “Small and Smart” we will dedicate part of the activity for underrepresented topics on the Hebrew Wikipedia. In addition, we will strive to create cooperations around all of these events with organizations that represent or promote these groups.
2. Thanks for your comment regarding "Museum Night.
3. The cultural program for the event at the presidential residence has not been prepared yet, but the guiding principle will be the contribution of Wikipedia to Israeli society as expressed in one or several of the following ways: short TED talks by Wikipedians, a short film about Wikipedia, special presentation of Wikipedia articles as an interview or a conversation, in reading and dramatization by actors, or musical composition of articles’ texts by well-known composers. The program is still being developed.
4. The content and logistics item includes the creation and curation of contents that express the messages professionally selected for the target audiences of each of the events, and ways to help the chapter’s team and volunteers to set up the events (logistically).
5. Thanks for your comment regarding the Attitude Research.
6. I have included more information about the vision and the events in the grant application in response to question #9.
7. As for the community’s support of the events, some of the suggested ideas are the result of focus groups which were formed ahead of the 20th anniversary celebrations. We do our best these days to increase the number of volunteers from among the local Wikipedia community, and we believe that after approval and budgeting, we will be able to form a joint committee of volunteers and chapter staff members, which will have an essential role in the brainstorming and in carrying out these events.
Thank you very much. If further clarification is required, I will be glad to provide it. Michal-WMIL (talk) 12:48, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
