  • Strong support Strong support This will be an opportunity of exchanging ideas and knowledge on how we can use Wikimedia projects to impact the community positively. Having youths come together is something that will create collaboration and have them share experiences with other guru editors in the country.

Strong support Strong support This Conference is a good one as it focus on Student Community engagement, where students will connect, collaborate and interact around Wiki projects ,implementing the Movement Strategy initiatives in students communities. I strongly support that this conference should hold as students and academic Professionals will learn about Wiki projects and how to use it in the Classroom. It will also help build leaders as it will invest in skills and Leadership, molding the leaders of tomorrow on the basics of this learning Ecosystem. WMF review and feedback[edit]

Hi @Magotech, @CaliBen and @Codtz,

Thank you very much for submitting this proposal. I found it to be very well written, but mostly - innovative and relevant. I really liked the fact that you are not organizing this only as a training platform for students, but as a learning opportunity for you to better understand how students operate in the Wikimedia sphere and how can we learn from their experience as contributors as hey are such an important target audience for our Wikimedia work around the world.

I have reviewed your proposal and had a few comments and questions:

  • The main thing I am not completely clear about is the focus of the event - is it to raise awareness to the Wikimedia work in Tanzania, especially in the fields of Academia and education? Or is it a capacity building "camp"/ training. I think the reason to my confusion is that you have identified 2 very important but very difference target audiences. The first, is students and teachers with former Wikimedia experience - which is clear (for capacity building and learning). And the second is different stakeholders from the government sector (for awareness and partnership) and teachers who have never workes woth Wikimedia before. I think those are two important audiences, and two important goals (awareness and capacity building). But I don't see how they come together at one event. It will be very hard to facilitate and design a program that will not only answer everyone's needs, but that also promote engagement of all parties. I see two ways to mitigate this: 1) Prioritize. Reevaluate your focus and choose the kind of event that the community is more interested at the moment. 2) In some way, you will need to have 2 events in one. Meaning to start with the students event and training for most of the conference, and than to invite government officials to the last day/half day, maybe as a showcase of the work that have been done so they can get more visibility into the needs, capacities and potential influence of students knowledge and impact on free knowledge. Whatever way you choose, you will need to think about how to bring 2 such different audiences with such different skills, to the same room.

We understand the inclusion of the two types of audiences mentioned in the proposal, however, the mentioned audience (government) did confirm and insisted on having their representatives during the whole event. This is for them to understand better the program before we can move on to partnership in the future events. Being said so, we will have the 2 in one event where we will create awareness and also perform capacity building and learning to all the participants.Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • You mentioned 80 scholarship, but 150 total participants. who are those 70 people?

We have updated this we will have 100 scholarships. However, 30 participants will be from the local community in the Morogoro region and 20 will be self-funded participants.Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • I really liked your first metrics. I think that is a good indication for the success of the conference.

Thank you.Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • i understand you will have a FS (which is still pending confirmation), but can you please clarify what will be the roles and responsibilities of the FS and the organizing team?

The roles and responsibilities of the Financial Sponsor (FS) and the organizing team will be as follows:

Financial Sponsor (FS):

  • Will provide financial support for the event, including funding for venue rental, equipment, supplies, and other expenses related to the event.
  • Monitoring expenses to ensure that they are within the budget.
  • Work closely with the organizing team to ensure that the event runs smoothly and that all financial aspects of the event are handled properly.
  • May provide input on the overall planning and logistics of the event, but does not necessarily have a direct role in organizing the event.

Organizing Team:

  • Plan and execute the event, including determining the theme and purpose of the event, selecting a venue, arranging for equipment and supplies, coordinating speakers and presenters, and handling all logistics related to the event.
  • Develop a budget for the event and works with the FS to ensure that all expenses are covered.
  • Promote the event to potential attendees, sponsors, and partners.
  • Ensure that the event runs smoothly and handles any issues or problems that may arise.
  • Provide follow-up after the event, such as sending thank-you notes to sponsors and attendees and gathering feedback to improve future events.

Overall, the FS and organizing team will work closely together to ensure that the event is successful and meets its objectives. Clear communication, collaboration, and planning are key to ensuring that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and that the event runs smoothly.Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Budget:

  • What do you mean by Expenditure for volunteer training?

Before the event it is essential having training to all the volunteers who will help in organizing and managing the event. The costs indicated will cover for transport and food during the training.Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • Why do you need certificate? Who will be the official entity that will certify the participants?

Certificates will serve as a tangible and valuable way to recognize participation, document learning, provide evidence of attendance, and promote future events. By offering certificates to attendees, it can help make our event more impactful and memorable for participants. Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • I really appreciate your effort with raising in-kind donations and discounts.

Thank you. Magotech (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Looking forward to hearing from you. CAlmog (WMF) (talk) 03:12, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 14-16, 2023?[edit]

I am confused on the application as it fell one week before Wikimania 2023. Is this planned to be a satellite event? Exec8 (Wikimania 2023 COT) (talk) 06:29, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
