Follow-up questions on your grant application from the ESEAP Funds Committee and Programme Officer[edit]

Hello @halenhardy

Hope you are well. Thank you for putting in a grant application. These are consolidated inputs from the review of your grant application. The following points are for your further response:

Feedback on value/impact of the proposal and proposal viability

1) The intent is noble and in its basic form at good intent. Still, I wonder if this project share a very minimal value with the Wikimedia movement?

2) Based on the information provided by the applicant, this appears to be a paid editing project, which is not the focus for rapid fund grants.

Feedback on implementation team

3) Based on the applicant's global account and user contributions, it is not apparent if the applicant has the (technical / organizing) capacity to implement this project. That said, the team has demonstrated experience outside of the Wikimedia sphere.

Feedback on community engagement

4) From the application, it is not clear if there has been sufficient engagement of community members. It feels like a standalone initiative of a small community with minimal/no contact from either ESEAP nor North American Wikimedian community.

Feedback on budget

5) According to information provided by the applicant, all funds requested are for salaries.

6) The proposed budget does not adequately reflect the investment needed to achieve the proposed goals. It looks like a paid editing if we look into the proposal.

Feedback on learning and evaluation

7) The applicant shows some clarity in what they hope to learn from their work given the change they are hoping to achieve, but the focus is on the content only. The plan doesn't include how to nurture/ grow/ sustain a Wikimedian community.

General questions, observations, recommendations to consider

8) Consider using Wikispecies as target project

9) How does the work involved translate to Wikipedia content? What is being produced by consultants? Is Wikipedia the best place to host novel information?

10) How do you plan to get content material for all articles? Eg: Data, Photo, Reference, etc.

11) There is a concern that the proposed project is driven by the nominated fiscal sponsor/ coordinator resulting in a conflict of interest. The motivation in applying for the grant by the main applicant is unclear.

Thank you.
