Initial suggestions from the South Asia Regional Funds Committee[edit]

Hello @Nivas10798, Thank you for the application.

  • The South Asia Regional Funds Committee recognises that this proposal seeks to introduce and encourage contributions to Wikimedia technical projects from an interested and previously engaged programmer community. The proposal also has a component that supports formalisation of the plans and structures of the user group performing these introductions/encouragements.
  • Our suggestion would be to slightly reducing the training time (1.5 days rather than 2 days) in order to give participants more time to work on interesting tasks, and to curate task lists to the programming proficiencies of the participants (Python tasks for those comfortable with it, Lua tasks for those comfortable with it, and so on).
  • As for the working group meeting, while the benefits of in-person planning are not to be overlooked, we suggest that there should be consideration for virtual participation and a timeline of this meeting, just as a similar timeline was given for the hackathon period, would help in better planning of the entire activity. Looking forward to your responses. On behalf of the South Asia Regional Funds Committee THasan (WMF) (talk) 14:00, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@THasan (WMF): Thanks Tanveer and the regional funds committee for the review. Here are our responses:
  • Thanks for suggesting to reduce the training time. We would definitely strive for that. We are also hoping to have at least one pre-event orientation call before the hackathon. However, what we have observed in practice is participants usually keep trying things on parallel, for example, installing MediaWiki or setting up their developer accounts etc. So the training time usually doesn't have only training, it is mix of training and practice. We will try our best to have more "hacking" time.
  • We appreciate the idea to curate the lists of tasks based on programming proficiency. It is a great idea, and can be easy for people to easily to get to the tasks.
  • We will have space for virtual participation. As of now, we don't have a day to day agenda for the meeting. Once we finalize that, we would like to definitely have space for virtual participation in areas where we don't full expertise on. The brief timeline for the meeting is as follows:
  • Pre-meeting: A retrospective of our activities till date, what went well and our learning.
  • Day 1: Review of the retrospective document, defining key focus areas for medium term, and identifying a few practical opportunities for the focus areas.
  • Day 2: Forming a medium term strategy and vision for the group, a workflow to welcome and retain newcomers, identifying partners internally (within the movement) and externally to support our work, and group working/governance processes.
  • Day 3: Documenting and resolving any loose ends.
We hope this helps. Let us know if there are any further questions. Nivas10798 (talk) 16:36, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Funding recommendation from the South Asia Regional Funding Committee[edit]

@Nivas10798: Thank you for your responses and factoring in suggestions made by the South Asia Regional Funding Committee in revising your program plan. This project is approved for full funding. We would like to understand the impact of the event and the outcome of the meeting of the working group members.

Request for report deadline extension- amFOSS Hackathon + IMD Working Group Meeting Grant[edit]

Greetings SA Grants Programs Officer,

I am Nivas, a member of the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group. I would like to request an extension to submit the final report of a previously received grant "amFOSS Hackathon + IMD Working Group Meeting". Due to a few personal issues and commitments, I will not be able to submit the report on the previously agreed deadline (i.e. 29 August 2023). So, I would like to request the team to extend the report submission deadline by 15 days (i.e. 12 September 2023) which will give me enough time to go back to my city and submit the report. I assure you that I will abstain from making such requests with future grant requests.

Please let me know if you have any questions for me. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Warm regards, Nivas10798 (talk) 20:01, 30 August 2023 (UTC) (Member of Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group)Reply

Hello Nivas10798, thank you for the request. We will extend the report submission deadline to 15 September 2023 to allow some flexibility. However, if you require additional time to complete the report, please let us know. Thank you -- Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 20:17, 8 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
