Grants talk:Project/Rapid/MatthewVetter/Arts+FeminismEdit-a-thon

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hello Matthewvetter thank you for your grant proposal of Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon. It’s great to see you’re using all the resources available to you especially the Education Program training modules. It would also be great to have you use the programs & events dashboard to track your editathon. I had a couple of follow up thoughts on your proposal:

  1. You have a line item for speaker fee for guest speaker but I didn’t see a guest speaker mentioned in your proposal. Can you please clarify and provide additional context for why this person is integral to the success of the event? We normally don’t offer honorariums for people speaking as part of our grant budget.
  2. Also wanted to share with you our Open access policy for sharing your publication although I do believe you were already considering open access.

Looking forward to your responses to the budget and I can move forward with your request. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:29, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WJifar (WMF) - Thanks for the prompt response to my grant proposal. I will say first that we are absolutely planning on using the programs and events dashboard. We've already set up this year's dashboard. I didn't mention it in the proposal but we also used this resource last year and found it to be an incredibly effective way to report back to our University community on the event's success (see last year's dashboard). In response to your two numbered questions:
  1. Our guest speaker would be Dr. Lynn Botelho, who is a Distinguished Professor of History and the Director of Women's and Gender Studies at our University. She did a great deal of work last year organizing and promoting the event, and has also been integral to our success this year. I was hoping to offer her this honorarium as a way to encourage her further participation, as well as to recognize her speaking role at this year's event, during which she'll discuss the importance of a feminist approach to Wikipedia editing and the digital humanities.
  2. Yes, I would like to target an open access journal for the dissemination of this research. I'm especially interested in | Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy as a possible venue. I have had an informal conversation with an editor there who expressed interest in this research. I'm glad you shared the open access policy, though, because it helps me better understand the processes involved in the documentation of research procedure and sharing of any supporting materials. I am more than happy to comply with these expectations.
Thank you for your kind consideration. Please let me know if I can offer any more clarification. Best, Matthewvetter (talk) 23:44, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Budget modification request: reallocation[edit]

WJifar (WMF) We are requesting to reallocate the funds budgeted for childcare, $80.00, to supplies. While we would have liked to provide childcare during the event, we have run in to some logistical issues that we did not anticipate at proposal time. We would like to reallocate these funds to supplies to purchase additional globe stickers and to promote the event more widely.Matthewvetter (talk) 00:17, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Approval of budget modification/reallocation[edit]

Hello Matthewvetter, thank you for sending in your request. I'm approving the $80 initially designated for childcare to be used for supplies and promotion. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 18:21, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
