Regarding remaining funds[edit]

Hello, all! Since this Rapid Grant was funded from the remaining grant funds from Egyptian Wikimedians User Group 2016 activities PEG, no additional funds were disbursed. Once a final decision has been made by WMF staff regarding the remaining 734 EGP, WMF will close out the PEG and finalize the final amount spent on that grant. Thank you, @MJue (WMF) :) I am not quiet sure I understand your note regarding the remaining funds. I have detailed how they were spent in the remaining funds section and sent the receipts to Janice & Woubzena.--Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 00:04, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I stand corrected, @Reem Al-Kashif! Thanks for catching my oversight. I'll update our records again, and I'm glad you were able to use up the full amount!! Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 00:12, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No worries at all, @MJue (WMF) :) Thank you!

Accepted[edit]

Hello Reem Al-Kashif thank you for such a thorough report on Wiki Science Competition in Egypt. The photos were a delight to look at. I think the one on Aswan Golden Hour was my favorite. Thank you for sharing the link to photos on commons. I think so many things worked well in this competition despite the challenges you had with delay in funding, lack of interest from existing contributors and price changes on venue. I really applaud you for sticking with it and doing such an amazing job. I understand that the impact didn't quite meet your target except for number of participants exceeding your expectations but I see you have had many learnings here.

Would you be willing to do the competition again? It really looks like a worthwhile endeavor! Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 17:16, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for accepting the report. I'm really happy you found it thorough and you liked the pictures! :) At Wikimania, I met a dear Tunisian Wikipedia who wanted to replicate the competition in his country. We agreed on having a second local run in Egypt, first local run in Tunisia, and first regional run where winners from the two countries will compete. We have this meta page here for documenting what we do. We are not really sure how to get the funds for this. Your input would be super helpful. Thank you for your support really :)--Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 00:20, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Reem Al-Kashif, this is really great to hear. In regards to organizing events in Egypt and Tunisia I think you should apply separately for those events from your respective countries. For the regional competition it depends what you would need funding for? Is it just for prizes or you're planning to host events as well? Let me know a little bit more about the regional event and we can try to problem solve together on where funding should go. Does this sound good to you?
