Hello BrendaPadilla3, thank you for submitting this final report and your expense documentation. We have reviewed and are accepting both. Congratulations, this grant is now complete! Below we have left some comments and questions reflecting on your report for you to review when you can.

  • It was great to see you had such a successful event! We’re delighted to hear that you exceeded all your goals. What led to you hosting an extra edit-a-thon?
  • We’re sorry to hear that some of the faculty encountered resistance and criticism. It is understandable that this would impact the organizers’ moods, and we applaud them for going forward with the event nonetheless. Will you be working with the same faculty this year? Have you discussed strategies for handling criticism?
  • It seems we had a misunderstanding about one part of your application: You requested gift cards to recognize outstanding volunteer contributions, and we assumed this was for people participating in the edit-a-thon. After reading your report, it seems that the gift cards were for the organizers of the event, correct? If so, please note that we do not allow grant funds to be used to compensate event organizers in any way. This is our mistake for not understanding the proposal, but for future projects please note that this will not be allowed.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this proposal and report! We appreciate your engagement with the Wikimedia movement. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Hello WJifar,

Thank you for your comments. I would like to offer some follow-up on them:

  • What led to you hosting an extra edit-a-thon? Essentially, it was a matter of opportunity. We could do it, so we did it. Also, this was not our first event. People are starting to learn more about this and wanting to join in. This is encouraging.
  • Will you be working with the same faculty this year? Have you discussed strategies for handling criticism? I have invited the same faculty to participate again next year. I do not know yet if they will. I have not received an answer from them yet. I don't know how much the criticism they faced has left a mark. I hope they reach out so we can discuss strategies for this. I created a rapid project proposal for our editathons next year, but this faculty is out of it. If they do participate, they will find funds through other means.
  • The organisers were also participants in the editathons. We all contributed to Wikipedia articles. I considered them outstanding volunteers because they not only contributed to Wikipedia articles but also helped others. Some were present during more than one editathon. In this case, are gift cards acceptable? I am happy to not have any compensation (only satisfaction!) for myself next time.

Hello BrendaPadilla3, thank you for the prompt response. In regards to the organizers, unfortunately, we do not offer compensation, so sadly gift cards are not acceptable. I do see your thinking around it though and we appreciate your explanation. Thank you again for the work you and other organizers do. I will be sure to take a look at your proposal shortly. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:13, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again WJifar (WMF)! How could we judge an outstanding contribution? Is the number of articles improved an acceptable criterion? We could have small contests (one per editathon session) with that in mind. And if I understand correctly, organisers would not be able to participate in it. Would that be ok? (I'm asking for my other proposal, so I can change it accordingly). Thanks! --BrendaPadilla3 (talk) 23:58, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello BrendaPadilla3, thank you for this question. Yes you can have a mini contest within your edit-a-thon and give a prize to a participant that has the most edits for a example. Yes you're understanding this correctly. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 00:42, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification, WJifar (WMF)! I have made the corresponding changes in my other proposal. :) With kind regards, --BrendaPadilla3 (talk) 19:25, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
