Can Diff show me differences to future edits? --Abdull 8 July 2005 19:13 (UTC)

Is there a way of wikilinking to a diff?--84.188.180.40 17:03, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You can link to it like an external link by pasting the URL you get from following the diff link. For example, this is your edit to this talk page here. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 22:51, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I can't get diff to work on my install of mediawiki. Everytime I use it I get the following error

Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/DifferenceEngine.php on line 105

this is on ubuntu, using the mediawiki provided from synaptic. Is there something wrong with my config?

You're running PHP 5.0.5 or 5.1 release candidate. This is not compatible with MediaWiki 1.4.x; upgrade to the 1.5 release candidate. --brion 01:42, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

In this table, only one line is omitted from the diff table, in between two segments that are. In cases where there is only a one-line gap between table chunks, or where only the first or last line is omitted, wouldn't it make sense to fill in the gap? The gap looks awkward, and in this case I think it would have been best to have the whole article in the table. Seahen 04:13, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Diff not working[edit]

Hi - diff is not working as it should. For example, compare this diff .. with this diff. In the first case I'm not seeing the changes made in the second case, even though the first diff covers the changes made in the second diff. --Stbalbach 15:08, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to work fine, most changes of the first edit were reverted in the second edit.--Patrick 00:30, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't show page content below diffs[edit]

I see a new setting under Misc in my preferences:

[ ] Don't show page content below diffs.

Since that setting apparently affects the appearance of the diff page, it would be nice to mention it somewhere in Help:Diff. I left a request on Help talk:Preferences#Don't show page content below diffs for someone who has knowledge of this setting to document it. When that happens, if nobody else has linked to that description from Help:Diff, I will try to add something if I can remember to do so. Someone who has more knowledge of this new feature could do a better job now, though. --Teratornis 20:13, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Searching[edit]

Is there a ways to search _between_ the diffs of a page? 202.123.249.66 23:58, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Out of memory in diff."?[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zakuro_Fujiwara&diff=prev&oldid=148863774

In the above diff, there's nothing shown where the differences would usually be, and there's a little note saying "Out of memory in diff." Why is it doing this?

This page needs a great deal of work[edit]

The "advices" section, for example, reads like a machine translation from a foreign language (as does the title: "Advices"?). I am aware that all Wikimedia projects are works in progress, but this the main page for explaining diffs—a highly used function across all Wikimedia projects. I would wade in but I am not well versed in the technical aspects of the subject matter, and I certainly could read this page in its current state 1,000 times and remain un-well versed, which highlights the problem. Someone with a giant blue pencil needs to get busy.--71.249.109.66 22:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

Why not make the Line numbers in the Diff output into wikilinks to the head of the enclosing section of that wikitext version? It would really facilitate recent change patrolling.

Suggestion[edit]

When para B of paras A B C is deleted, the after column need not highlight C in red as if it had changed. It should really just show beside the C in the before column. Similarly for additions.131.137.245.198 18:02, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
