Backlinks and Templates

The information under the section "Transclusion" contradicts the same section in wikipedia:Help:What_links_here, and also appears to be incorrect according to my own installation of MediaWiki. Can someone confirm the truth of this please? Am I correct in thinking that pages which are linked to the target page only through a template will not appear on the target page's list of backlinks? If they are supposed to appear, after all, can someone suggest why they do not do so in my version of Mediawiki? --Nigedo 6 July 2005 17:12 (UTC)

The version on Wikipedia was old, I updated it. Meta is correct, see e.g. Special:Whatlinkshere/Help:What_links_here, most entries are due to the footer template. Perhaps you have an older version of MediaWiki.--Patrick 6 July 2005 20:46 (UTC)
The version is 1.4.5. The problem seems to be that the wiki is just slow to update. I moved (renamed) the template that should be acting as the conduit for a large number of backlinks from the "protected pages" description page. Since I did this, I have to edit and resave each page (featuring the "why is this page protected" template) before mediawiki will add it to that list of backlinked pages. I'm hoping that the wiki will update itself in time rather than requiring me to resave every page that features the renamed template? --Nigedo 7 July 2005 15:02 (UTC)
Hm, this seems similar to Help:Category#A_category_tag_in_a_template.3B_caching_problem. I agree, this is not convenient.--Patrick 7 July 2005 21:01 (UTC)
