Histo Cita-thon/Join Community Events
Ghana Histo Cita-thon is a wikicite event that aims to educate and expose members within the Wikimedia Movement to the benefits of using offline resources such as books, journals, and newspapers in creating and improving Wikimedia projects. This year's event is themed "Diversify Citations" and will focus on training Librarians, Wikimedia volunteers, and community members on listing books, journals, and newspapers in local languages, with a special emphasis on Gurene (Frafra language) and Dagbani, on Wikidata. This will make it easier for editors to access these resources and use them as references.
The Ghana Histo Cita-thon 3.0 event will feature a workshop followed by a month-long online contest. During the workshop, participants, including librarians and information professionals, will gain valuable knowledge on how to create and edit books, journals, and research papers on Wikidata. At the same time, Wikimedia volunteers will be given the necessary skills to properly use these resources for citation and contribute to the enhancement of Wikidata. The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with each other and engage in hands-on activities that will deepen their understanding of the topic. By the end of the workshop, participants will be well-equipped to participate in the online contest and make valuable contributions to the Wikidata platform.
The contest is designed to encourage participants to use their newly acquired skills to add to the Wikidata platform, with prizes awarded to the winners.
