Ibibio Group

Ibibio Group is a non recognized group (in the process of applying for official status) dedicated to promoting Wikimedia projects in Ibibio language and topics relating to its people, history, norms and culture. Ibibio is a language spoken in the Akwa Ibom and Cross River states of Nigeria and has up to 10,000,000 native speakers. The group is open to membership by interested individuals with shared interests.

Objectives[edit]

  • To promote Wikimedia projects.
  • To increase the visibility of Ibibio language on the internet.
  • To encourage Ibibio people that are literate in Ibibio language to become contributors and involved as community members.
  • To promote topics relating to Ibibio language, history and culture.
  • To promote editing of Wikimedia projects in Ibibio language by organizing events such as edit-a-thons, contests, educational outreaches and photowalks.
  • To create awareness of Wikimedia projects in Ibibio language through promotional campaigns.

Activities[edit]

  • Organize edit-a-thons in order to engage and help new contributors and volunteers to develop Ibibio Wikipedia and contribute to Wikimedia projects in general.
  • Train new volunteers, editors and contributors to translate and create new contents on Ibibio Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects in general.
  • Organize regular in-person and online meetings, workshops and discussions that will move the group forward.
  • Organize editing contests to encourage new and existing editors to contribute to Ibibio Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects in general.
  • Organize educational outreaches and photowalks to support and promote the Wikimedia movement.
