From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Introduction[edit]

For this Training: We intend to introduce Wikipedia to the new volunteers: including: The wikimedia policy, pass through the navigation and how to open accounts for the new members. Introduce to them other sister projects under Wikipedia and to have their expectations too.

This virtual meeting is expected to start at 9:00am up to 11:30 am, this Saturday to be attended  by 19 people.

In person Trainings[edit]

For the Inperson trainings:

The first one: Is aimed at physically meeting all the 19 volunteer including new 10 volunteers. These will be guided of how to open up Wikipedia accounts on both Luganda Wikipedia and English Wikipedia. The already set in members at such a time will also be familiarizing themselves with the Wikipedia editing system, including: How to reference, citing, among others.

Herein, the new members will also be introduced to the harmonized list of Luganda words the team agreed to use as we translate articles.

And finally on that day: Every old volunteer will be expected to produce at least 2 translations, and for the new members, 1 each.

Meaning for this, we anticipate an outcome of 18 translated articles from the 9 already registered volunteers, and 10 articles from the new volunteers, making it 28 articles.

Second Inperson:

This will be our last meeting, where we will add in more techniques like how to upload a picture in an article, How to create an article (including how to reference, to cite etc )and we shall go straight away to Translating atleast 3 articles per each of the 9 already registered volunteers and 2 articles to be translated by the new volunteers/ editors, totaling to 41 articles to be translated that day.

Thereafter we believe that the volunteers/ editors will be ready for the upcoming campaign to be done a month later.

Uganda at 60 years of independence campaign[edit]

We expect this campaign to take one month between 14, November -14 December with the

participation of 12 editors/volunteers.

This campaign is planned to create and Translate articles that rotate around the commemoration of

Uganda’s 60 years of Independence and the articles will come from fields like: the politics of Uganda,

these leaders of Uganda since Independence, state’s major administration buildings, hospitals, schools,

prisons, markets, roads, clubs etc. Among other sources will include, Ugandan music: artists, bands, film

industry, places of worship like churches, mosques: Media with radios, TVs, newspapers, major players

in the struggle for independence, political parties among others.

We expect every volunteer/editor/participant to translate at least five (5) articles per week for the four

weeks it will take. This implies that at the end of this campaign, we shall have more than 240 articles

translated and that will add a lot to our dream of reaching 2000 articles in a few years to come for

Luganda Wikipedia.
