Mapping out Nigeria markets and cemeteries; a guide to reforming and improving Wikidata

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

OVERVIEW[edit]

MAPPING OUT NIGERIAN MARKETS AND CEMETERIES is a Wikidata project that is aimed at updating and improving the number and quality of contents on Wikidata. The goal is to increase the number and visibility of market places and cemeteries on Wikidata by adding more items as well as providing a geo-location.

Mapping out Nigerian markets and cemeteries would involve identifying and marking the locations of these places in Nigeria. Markets are essential hubs for commerce and can vary from local, open-air markets to larger, permanent structures. Cemeteries, on the other hand, are burial grounds where deceased individuals are laid to rest. To map them out, you would need geographical data, such as GPS coordinates, to accurately pinpoint their locations on Wikidata. This information is valuable for various purposes, including urban planning, tourism, and public services.

Project Timeline[edit]

November 3rd, 2023[edit]

  • Launch and discussion: The event kicks off with a training on what wikidata is and the importance of promoting free knowledge, followed by how to find information gaps on Wikidata with respect to Markets and Cemeteries. And finally, how to add items and properties to fill the information gap. This opening session will bring together participants to learn how to add items, such as properties and values to wikidata.
  • You can also join the training via Google meet, link below;
Friday, Nov 3  •  5:00 – 6:30 PM

Participants from the Igbo community, as well as other interested individuals, will actively engage in adding items and properties to Wikidata. The goal is to promote visibility of Nigerian marketplaces and cemeteries on Wikidata.
