3rd Annual Women's Herstory Edit-Athon[edit]

Date: 3/16/2018, Friday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Location: California State University, Fresno: Henry Madden Library 2127 (Second Floor / Studio 2)

Summary: Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge. We invite people of all gender identities and expressions, particularly transgender, cisgender, and gender nonconforming women, to address this absence by organizing in-person, at our communal updating event of Wikipedia’s entries on women's herstory!

Librarians will provide training and reference sources to assist contributors in adding and improving the Wikipedia entries for women in history! For more information, see here.

To-Do[edit]

For those new to editing Wikipedia we recommend looking for articles that need references, in-text citations, or stubs that need expanding. For those looking for a challenge try those that need more substantive edits around language, bias, and original research. And for the Wikipedia rockstars we recommend creating an article from scratch.

Here are a few suggested articles to create or improve during this edit-a-thon, but you are welcome to work on anything you like.

You can help by adding to it.
To improve:

* [[ ACT UP ]] (citations needed)

* [[Feminist theory in composition studies ]](lead text needs to be rewritten)

* [[Gender inequality in Honduras]] (references)

* [[Gender pay gap in the United States]] (tone, reference errors)

* [[Gender roles in Afghanistan ]] (style editing, additional references)

* [[Ida Henrietta Hyde]] (needs references)

* [[Marilyn Friedman]] (references needed)

* [[Nicola Pellow]] (needs secondary sources)
