Meetup cum Workshop Kolkata - July 2023 is a one-day meetup and workshop organized by the West Bengal Wikimedians User Group.

After the User Group monthly meetup there would be two workshops.

Report

A total of 19 participants participated in the workshop including 3 who were part of the post-lunch session. The seminar consisted of several small workshops and a meeting focused on the running and future of the chapter.

Workshop

Pinaki Biswas and Arindam Maitra conducting Bengali Wikipedia Workshop

A total of 5 small workshops were held targeting both new and experienced editors. The workshop covered a diverse range of topic covering different projects of Wikimedia and beyond.

1. Basic Bengali Wikipedia workshop:
   1. Conducted by: Pinakpani and Arindam Maitra
   2. Participants: Projit Saha and Jprojit
   3. Objective: Introducing Bengali Wikipedia to beginners
   4. Outcome: Both participants opened their accounts and made some edits under the supervision of the editors
2. Wikivoyage Workshop:

Rangan Datta conducting Wikivoyage Workshop

1. 1. Conducted by: Rangan Datta
   2. Participants: All
   3. Objective: Encouraging experience wikimedians to work in Bengali Wikivoyage
   4. Outcome: Participants learned about the different editing techniques in wikivoyage including how to connect wikidata with wikivoyage
2. Panorama Shooting and Wikibanner Workshop:
   1. Conducted by: Rangan Datta
   2. Participants: All
   3. Objective: Panorama photo stitching using Photoshop software and using them as wikivoyage banner
   4. Outcome: Participants learned the process of stiching photograph and resizing them 2100 px X 300 px format
3. Wikisource Workshop:

Salil Kumar Mukherjee, Bodhisattwa and Sujata Nettime conducting Bengali Wikisource Workshop

1. 1. Conducted by: Nettime Sujata
   2. Participants: All
   3. Objective: Making the experienced wikimedians aware of Bengali Wikisource
   4. Outcome: This was an unscheduled workshop hosted on demand. The participants got a basic idea of wikisource, use of OCR and proof reading and correction
2. Basic Commons and WLM workshop:

1. 1. Conducted by: Sumit Surai and Rangan Datta
   2. Participants: All
   3. Objective: Make the new participants aware of Wikimedia Commons and motivate them to participate in the upcoming Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) 2023.
   4. Outcome: The participants learned about Wikimedia Commons and the process of uploading photos in general and for WLM.

Meeting

The meeting focused on some of the future plans of the user group and include:

1. Book Fair Participation: Accepted. Future plans include a meeting with the guild, preparing a grant proposal, volunteer selection and training and various other logistic issues.
2. Registration of user group: No immediate plans
3. Office space for user group: No immediate plans
4. Development of merchandise (T shirt, pen, pad, mug, batch and sticker): Accepted a grant proposal needs to be filed
5. Proposal for Wikivoyage workshop at Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandir, Belur: Accepted and plans needs to be made after the authorities confirm the date.
