Ombuds commission/2013/Report Feb-Jun

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The present Ombudsman commission was appointed in February and was given the opportunity to meet each other and the staff of the Wikimedia Foundation to discuss the commissions’ role, remit, and procedures. In this report, we summarize the activities of the present Commission, until June 30th 2013.

During the above period, a total of 10 cases have been brought before the commission or have been handled by it. Of these, 6 have been closed, one was waiting for a response from the complainant, and 3 were still open by the end of June 2013. In addition, we received many emails which were outside our scope as they referred to other problems than violation of the Privacy Policy, to which we replied informing the sender of the email of our scope.

Most cases were closed in less than 6 weeks from the original inquiry, and the breakdown is as follows:

  • Closed in less than 10 days: 2
  • Closed in more than 10 days but less than 6 weeks: 2
  • Closed in more than 6 weeks but less than 6 months: 1
  • Closed in longer than 6 months: 1 (a case inherited from previous Commission, which was closed earlier and reopened)

At the end of this reporting period, all cases inherited from the previous Commission were closed.

The remainder 4 cases that were not closed at June 30th, had been received as follows:

  • April: 1 case
  • May: 2 cases
  • June: 1 case

No case required us to report abuse of the checkuser tools to the Wikimedia Foundation.

In addition, the Ombudsman Commission initiated a RFC on Meta regarding the scope of the Commission. The RFC will soon be closed and passed to the Foundation for decision on possible action.
