This is an African initiative designed by Africans to preserve its history content and connect with the prevailing present situation to build a motor that will drive its entity for a better understanding of the future.
Mission[edit]
At Open GLAM Africa; we want to create an open Africa where all non-personal information is open, free for everyone to use, build on and share; and creators and innovators are fairly recognised and rewarded.
Why[edit]
Africa is a virgin land in terms of knowledge about cultural heritage sites. Most of the tangible and intangible cultural heritages in Nigeria have not been significantly documented and effectively preserved. Most institutions in Africa have not fully embraced the culture of releasing contents under a free license so that these contents can be accessed freely by the public.
There is a need for Africa to embrace the relevance of open and public knowledge to its existence and growth. We want to support and help document cultural heritage and promote its importance among Africans and globally.

- Initiate series of conversation across Africa to stimulate interest around this course on the continent.
- Identify, create, connect and in spire corporate and individual on this course
- Initiate advocacy around the need to build Open Access for Cultural Heritage in Africa
- Promote collaboration among Memory institutions on preservation of public knowledge in the continent.
- Identify and connect Open Access experts globally to support the African initiatives.
- Design series of Human Capacity Development around access to digital collections and its reuse in Africa
- Promote Global declaration on Open Access to open Knowledge in Africa by Open GLAM
- Promote and support the implementation of open access policies within organizations, and releasing intangible cultural heritage under creative commons license.
