- Acknowledging all contributors involved in knowledge creation
Citations are hard currency in academia, a currency that you will never run out of as a re-user. This is a circumstance to keep in mind when deciding which contributions to your work to cite and which only to mention in a first footnote. - Citing digital resources that are not papers or books (with examples)
Although scholarly work in the 21st century goes way beyond what can be placed on a bookshelf, in reality, such digital scholarly objects are still largely out of sight from research evaluation and recognition. Giving proper citations of them is first, essential step to change this for the better. An obvious golden rule is to follow the "Cite as" information on the landing page. In the absence of a "Cite as" notice, you can follow the examples below. Importantly, always add a Persisten Identifyer to the citation where possible, so that the citation can be tracked.

Digital assets are worth citing even if not all components of the citation data are known. For instance, we do not only know the creators of certain resarch tools. Needless to say, all citation styles have their own, detailed guidelines covering a rich variety of content types to be cited.
