Project Grants


The Project Grants program funds Wikimedia community members - individuals, groups, or organizations contributing to Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia or Commons - to organize projects that benefit the Wikimedia movement. Grants are awarded bianually and have a minimum budget of USD 2,000. For grants under USD 2,000, please see the Rapid Grants program.

Grants are generally awarded in four broad categories, but we welcome all ideas!

  1. Software
  2. Research
  3. Online organizing
  4. Offline outreach

Proposals should support the achievement of Wikimedia’s mission.

Round 2 2018 schedule

Open call: November 1-30, 2018

Proposal deadline: November 30, 2018

Staff eligibility review: December 1-11, 2018

Community review: December 12, 2018 - January 2, 2019

Committee review: January 3-28, 2019

Grantees announced: March 1, 2019

Grants disbursed: March 2019
