Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes We, the team, successfully met and even surpassed our goals! Exploring the breathtaking places in Edo state Nigeria together has been an incredible journey.

The moments spent with amazing people are truly cherished, and the thrill of discovering new locations is an exhilarating experience for me.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to document these beautiful places in Nigeria, capturing their essence and sharing them with the world.

15 11 The dates for the tour/event were repeatedly shifted due to delays in receiving funds from the foundation. Unfortunately, these continuous postponements led to a sense of discouragement among others who were planning to attend.
200 251 I had the honor of collaborating with a truly passionate team of photographers and editors, which resulted in uploading a significantly higher number of images than initially anticipated.
1 1 We used a single day for the tour, followed by another day dedicated to training and uploading the pictures.
5 2 Our approach was truly collaborative, as we prioritized and accommodated the interests of each team member.

Photographer's Wikimedia Community Yes The addition of new photographers who participated in the tour and training has been instrumental in expanding and strengthening our Wikimedia photography community. Their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm injected new energy into the group, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collaboration among all members. The knowledge sharing during the training sessions not only empowered them but also enriched the collective expertise of the entire community. As a result, our Wikimedia photography community has grown even more vibrant, welcoming, and supportive, providing a nurturing environment for everyone to flourish and contribute their talents to the world of photography and Wikimedia projects.
Images that would improve wikimedia Yes Our tour was meticulously designed with a focus on capturing images that are directly related to various wiki articles. By aligning our photography efforts with specific article topics, we aimed to provide high-quality and relevant visuals that would significantly enhance and enrich the articles. This strategic approach ensures that the images we collected during the tour are not only captivating but also serve as valuable resources for improving the content and overall user experience on the Wikimedia platform.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The project was a resounding success, thanks to the seamless planning and well-executed strategies. Although we encountered a few challenges along the way, the unwavering support and collaboration with my co-facilitator made overcoming these hurdles much easier. Their assistance and teamwork played a crucial role in finding effective solutions, ensuring that we stayed on track and achieved our goals.

  • What did not work so well?

Obtaining the approved grant funds proved to be an exceedingly challenging process, marked by significant delays. Unfortunately, these delays caused numerous ups and downs, resulting in unexpected and undue expenses. We were forced to compensate for the already booked hall, which we ultimately didn't use on the designated day due to the delay in receiving funds.

The prolonged wait for the funds also placed me in a difficult position, as I had to resort to using my own personal finances to keep the project moving forward. This extra burden on my resources was a testament to my commitment and determination to see the project through despite the financial setbacks.

Despite these hurdles, I remained steadfast in my dedication to the project, and with perseverance and resilience, we eventually overcame the challenges and successfully completed the project. However, the experience highlighted the importance of timely and efficient fund disbursement processes, which could have averted unnecessary complications and personal financial strain.

  • What would you do differently next time?

I would consider the following steps to further enhance the tour experience:

1.Communication and Transparency: Ensuring clear communication with all participants and stakeholders is vital. I would establish open channels of communication to keep everyone informed about any updates, changes, or challenges that may arise during the planning and execution phases.

2.Budget Contingency: To address unforeseen expenses and delays in fund disbursement, I would incorporate a contingency buffer in the budget. This would provide a safety net to cover unexpected costs, minimizing the impact of delays on the overall project timeline.

3.Collaborative Decision-Making: Involving all team members in decision-making processes will foster a sense of ownership and responsibility. Regular meetings and brainstorming sessions will allow everyone to contribute ideas and solutions, leading to a more well-rounded and inclusive approach.

4.Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conducting a comprehensive risk assessment before the tour will help identify potential challenges and vulnerabilities. By proactively devising mitigation strategies, we can reduce the likelihood of encountering major obstacles and respond effectively if they do arise.

5.Engaging Local Support: Building positive relationships with local community members can be beneficial. Engaging with local guides, organizations, or representatives can provide valuable insights and assistance during the tour, ensuring a more immersive and culturally sensitive experience.

6.Participant Feedback: After the tour, gathering feedback from all participants will be invaluable in evaluating the strengths and areas for improvement. Analyzing feedback will enable us to refine future tours and address any concerns raised by participants.

7.Environmental and Social Responsibility: Incorporating sustainable practices during the tour, such as minimizing waste, respecting natural habitats, and supporting local businesses, will demonstrate our commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

By adopting these measures, I can create a well-organized, culturally respectful, and enriching tour experience for all involved, fostering a stronger sense of camaraderie and satisfaction among participants and stakeholders alike.

Remaining funds[edit]

Do you have any remaining grant funds?

No, I do not. In my unwavering belief in getting the job done, I willingly contributed money from my own purse to support the project. However, I noticed that I received a total fund of NGN190,000, despite the approved amount being NGN200,500. In addition to this, I personally spent NGN39,270 of my own money to cover the project expenses. I kindly request that the extra funds I contributed from my own purse, amounting to NGN39,270 be reimbursed to me at your earliest convenience. Your understanding and cooperation are highly appreciated. Thank you.
