There always were arguments for a German Wikipedia in simple language. By this discussion, which is about medicine related articles specially for kids, i think its made clear, that neither double articles in the articlenamespace are agreed by all, nor is it selfevident, why there shouldn't be such articles for kids anywhere. i think, the best solution is a new project, named kinderleicht.wikipedia.org. (which means "dead easy", "kinder" actually means "child") im not sure wether i got the template all right, i want the project to be named "kinderleicht.wikipedia.org", and there isn't a page at incubator at the moment.

Arguments in favour

[edit]
  • Articles for kids were repeatedly demanded
  • articles for kids in the existing german wikipedia do unnecessarily complicate the situation, because they would be a kind of duplicates
  • "kinderleicht" would be read by kids mostly, they could participate easier and in a more active way, contents would be easy understandable, and it could trigger a learning process for the "real" wikipedia
  • kids are the future of Wikipedia

Arguments against

[edit]
  • it would be much work at the beginning, to find rules, which are as good for kids as for the adult authors
  • finding routined wikipedia authors, to invest time in articles for kids could also be a problem

Other discussion

[edit]

I'd suggest not to name it "kinderleicht" as of course, it seems interesting to have just a simple version of articles - but they needn't be for kids only. Something like "einfach.wikipedia.org" would be better. Jón 09:56, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the name is, of course, not very important, but the point is the simple language AND the simple article-structure. no matter if it has "kids" in its name, the new project should be attractive specially for kids and younger teenagers. --Itsnotuitsme 10:03, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
i dont mean censored thematic areas or something, i meant a simple language as well as a simple structure (without 100KB articles etc.) --Itsnotuitsme 10:10, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I like this idea. I often thought about something like the simple-en-wiki for the german wiki. and i think an external wiki is more sensible than some pages in the "normal" de. i listened to some persons what they are thinking about wikipedia, most of them told me "well, it's okay but you don't understand anything if you read an article about illnesses or something like that". --Z1 15:31, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
