wikipanion - with apps you can be agnostic. it's about a good layout.
wikipedia mobile doesn't give you any features really. i have it on my phone, i just never use it.
at home: wifi, at&t uverse, hd video grade, 6 or 9 MB.
at&t 3g or wifi on my iphone wherever i am.
two laptops - my sons air. i'm the only one using a windows laptop. wife and son - macbook airs. daughter imac. i use my desktop which is windows. ipad around the house - daughter or son pick it up, floater of the family.
youtube, netflix.
the ipad for me is just the right form factor or screensize for watching video. youtube, twitter, netflix, daughters games.
there are certain.....well designed apps will give you features on the ipad that you don't have on the web....web experience. (bbc example - you get a menu on the left while watching video). which is true of wikipanion too....you get both on the same screen. they use that extra space to give you - contents history or other options.
TABLE OF CONTENTS. frames just work on a website. especially with longer wikipedia articles.
INTERLANGUAGE LINKS - left nav (either Wikipanion OR official app)
uses wikipedia/apps in landscape.
check articles/materials in Urdu. not a direct translation. with google transliteration, i might go do that. poetry or translation. originas.
has urdu installed on his laptop.
GOOGLE TRANSLITERATION UTF 8
end of a movie - looking to get some perspective there. as a lay editor.
somethings are better on the iphone/ipad - etrade, youtube, wikipanion (ipad only, not iphone) - multitasking within an app. can't change passwords or print.
facebook - looks full feature enough to need an app. app on the iphone is really good. my wife - that's all she uses. swiping to move between pictures......full screen pictures - kind of cool. phone - m.facebook, once in a while app, going through a large album, everything you need while you're on the go, i don't use touch.facebook.com.
if there is something that i feel really strongly about, i'll go ahead and type it on the phone.
it's out options i guess. you have to have both options in both places. 3 or 4 different ways of doing it. (luxury of choice).
work tools
blogger - not ipad app. not official, so it worked not as well.
access different wikis using the same app? why? especially as an editor. i don't want to use multiple tools to edit wikipedia, work wikis, familypedia. being able to edit that on the go or during a meeting during the meeting. do i want one for each wiki? if i'm forced to i might.
tumblr - as easy as sending an email. maybe even easier. as simpler as sending a text message. blogger app - just came out, looking at it now.
wordpress app is actually pretty function - can log into blogs i host myself.
CHECK OUT NEW BLOGGER APP.
to have to wait to put information up is a handicap.
logs in for longer edits. sometimes starts edit before logging in
HIT EDIT - if not logged in - ask?
checks contributions - "those are articles i care about". doesn't check linux that much.
can even put up a stub without references. people will go in.....i'm an inclusionist.
email out for list of marja articles.....asked people to send him information or edit the page itself. most friends sent him, but one went in an edited.
once i started the article then people started contributing. the list very rapidly built up. and the references can follow. this guy was like the pope, how can he not have a wikipedia article?
keeps official wikipeda app. i don't know sentimentality? or in the hopes that they'll give me features and upgrades for free.
little changes - typos, a person like me would edit.
sometimes there are important changes to be made.
usable text field.
mobile - if it's not perfect, someone would go edit it. get the rough stuff in there.
